A wagon with 23 cattle all tied at the neck was seized on Monday night by revenue officials, reports The Hindu.

Fifteen minutes later another vehicle was stopped with 26 cattle on board. The collector, Mr Maharabushanam Suresh described the conditions as ‘most cruel’.

Such cramped conditions were beyond the belief of the Animal Husbandry Department who later ruled that only six to eight cattle could be transported in view of animal welfare considerations.

Horns were grinding and evidence of bruising could be found on the animals.
