The professor gave insights into dairy feeding to farmers at Davidsons Animals Feeds, reports Herald Scotland.

While on a tour of the UK Professor Heinrichs stopped off in Scotland to argue the case for adjusting heifer feed rates according to heifer weight.

Feeding heifers ad lib means feed can be displaced before it is properly absorbed, argued the professor.

Minimising first heifer calving to 23 months was also discussed as a means of reducing input costs.
