Government Announces Milk Re-test For Dicyandiamide
SRI LANKA - The government has decided to re-test all samples of Fonterra milk powder, despite New Zealand milk being confirmed as 100 per cent safe.

The decision relates to Dicyandiamide (DCD) concerns over milk quality and has been welcomed by Leon Clement, Managing Director at Fonterra Brands Lanka.
This comes are hundreds of tests in independent and internationally accredited laboratories which confirmed all New Zealand milk as 100 per cent safe. Tests have been progressing since September last year, according to Mr Clement who said there is no problem with New Zealand milk but possibly with Sri Lankan information.
"While DCD has never been a food safety issue, there has been a lot of speculation and misinformation about milk powder products in Sri Lanka," said Mr Clement. “The Government has indicated that the tests they carried out on imported milk powder in April were inconclusive."
Low level DCD contaminations were found last year, although in quantities 100 times lower than the limits laid out in tolerable intake guidelines, added Mr Clement.
A New Zealand government ruling banned the substance which was used to stop nitrate leaching from cow urine patches.
'The bottom line? Our products are safe," concluded Mr Clement.
