Uruguay Opens Red Meat Exports to Booming Viet Nam Market
URUGUAY – Beef and lamb producers could have been presented with another export opportunity as the rapidly expanding Viet Nam economy opens up to their boneless meat products.Reputedly one of the world’s fastest growing economies, the middle class demographics are expanding as jobs in information and technology develop and the dependence on agriculture wains.
This is according to the National Meat Institute (INAC) in Uruguay who visited Viet Nam and Singapore in a trade delegation, led by Vice President of Uruguay, Danilo Astori back in November.
“We decided to open an embassy in Viet Nam a few months ago,” said INAC President Alfredo Fratti. “This, we believe, is timely as Viet Nam is performing similarly to China in terms of economic growth.”
Currently, most Vietnamese beef is imported from India (88 per cent) from both cows and buffalo but confirmation of access into the Viet Nam market could result in Uruguay becoming a key red meat source for Viet Nam.
