BOLIVIA – If cattle health targets are to be met, Foot and Mouth Disease vaccination coverage must increase to 95 per cent of the national herd.

This is the message of Christian Fernandez, National Director of the National Service of Agricultural Health and Food Safety (SENASAG) when he was addressing national and regional press on Monday.

FMD vaccination progress in Bolivia has experienced problems this year. Senasag has made an appeal to cattlemen in the Beni, Santa Cruz, La Paz and Cochabamba regions that vaccinations are to be completed by June in order to submit a complete report to the World Organisation for Animal Health.

“The FMD vaccine is the only one required by law that requires producers to act,” said Mr Fernandez. “Vaccinations therefore must immediately be undertaken at the risk of fines for non-compliance.”
