Dairy Review Looks at Continuing Improvements
NICARAGUA – A comprehensive industry review is being undertaken by dairy associations and the government with the help of Cuban experts to ensure the continuing development of milk production.Last year saw national milk production in Nicaragua lift 6 per cent to 216 million gallons. A combination of industry consultants, the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Centre for Agriculture Health are combining forces to improve a growing industry.
- Improvements will come from efforts from the public and private sector in
- Facilities for storage and processing milk
- Dairy laboratories – hygiene standards
- Regulating drugs administered to cows and possible effects on food stuffs
The government policy of improving milk production is targeted at maximising national income from the global price of milk. Securing national supplies and building export earnings are two clear government targets.
Nicaragua’s primary dairy buyer is El Salvador and heads an export portfolio for which President Daniel Ortega has received lots of praise.
