Tuberculosis Reported in Taranaki
NEW ZEALAND - Cattle from four North Island herds are to be slaughtered following a tuberculosis outbreak.Three herds in Taranaki – on the south west of the island – are being isolated and tested to identify the source of the infection, according to a report from Newstalkzb.
Frank Pavitt told Newstalkzb that possums could be carrying the disease into domestic cattle and deer populations.
Despite efforts to eradicate the disease, the chance of a herd getting TB has increased by 30 times since 1995.
Currently there are about 70 infected herds in New Zealand.
