Three Cooperatives Join to Create New State-wide Association

SPAIN - Three dairy associations have amalgamated, pooling over 15 per cent of Spanish milk quota as part of national policy efforts to centralise producer bargaining power.

The new partnership brings together Lacteoscoop, Aprolact and Southern Cooperatives in a move that concentrates over 1 million tonnes of of the Spanish quota. 

Designed to establish a common trading platform for dairy farmers and preserve the sector, the three associations bring together farmers from the autonomous authorities of Castile and Leon, Catalonia, Galicia, Andalusia, Extremadura and Catilla-La Mancha. 

Bargaining power and production flexibility are hoped to develop from the amalgamation as the scheme targets optimal production planing of quality and quantity. 

A spokesperson said: "This will impact further on better management of prodcution costs and to implement common strategies". 

The Association is expected to become fully operational by April.
