MLA: Daily Cattle Market Summary

AUSTRALIA - The cattle markets remain largely unchanged with varied quality at Wagga and Toowoomba, write market analysts at Meat and Livestock Australia.

Toowoomba

Numbers remained similar to the previous week at Toowoomba and quality was mixed, especially in the young cattle section.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed were 2¢ higher on 176¢, while medium weight yearling heifers to slaughter were 2¢ dearer on 175¢/kg.

Heavy grown steers to slaughter gained 1¢ to 184¢, while medium weight cows to processors lifted 5¢ to average 106¢/kg.

Wagga

Yardings decreased at Wagga and quality varied across all weights and grades. Medium weight yearling steers to feed were 4¢ lower on 158¢, while heavy weight yearling steers to feed lost 6¢ to 158¢/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers decreased 8¢ to 141¢/kg. Heavy cows to slaughter were 11¢ cheaper on 113¢/kg.

Market Conclusion

At the conclusion of Monday’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) was unchanged on 312¢/kg cwt.

Trade steers lost 4¢ to 167¢, while feeder steers were unchanged on 169¢/kg lwt.

Medium and heavy steers both decreased 2¢ to 161¢ and 162¢/kg lwt respectively.

The medium cow indicator was 1¢ lower on 122¢/kg lwt.
