Government Emphasise Beef Sector Importance
MEXICO – Disease control through the meat food chain and beef sector effects on the rural economy have been considered in a meeting attended by state and industry groups.
In 2012 the livestock sector was worth 165,000 jobs directly and 85,000 jobs indirectly, according to The Mexican Association of Cattle Feedlots (AMEG). In total this amounts to around 250,000 people in employment last year.
This was generated by 905,000 tons of meat that were produced at a market value of 31 billion pesos.
The government receive further credit from the National Health Service Food Safety and Quality (SANASICA) who have noted correlation between increased Federal Inspection Type Establishments and the reduction of disease.
Further health action was called for by Law Alvaro Lopez, AMEG president.
Consumers need assurance over food safety and producers should be able to generate as much profit as possible from products grown, added Mr Lopez.
