Rashes on the neck and face and ‘fever blisters’ on two dead cows have caused alarm in a central Bolivian farming community after Animal health experts from the National Health and Food Safety Department (SENASAG) could not identify the disease.

The Head of the investigation, Doctor Walter Ruben Rivera Duenas Vilela, dismissed the question of an infectious disease noting that the animals showed to infectious traits but trauma to the digestive system.

The calf’s mother showed no trace of illness. Dr Ruben Duenas said this ruled out possible viral infection.

SENASAG have said a monitoring and analysis programme will be put in place at the site of the deaths.
