NFU Concerned By BSE Results

US - The National Farmers Union expressed concern regarding Friday's U.S. Department of Agriculture announcement that a cow has tested positive for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), but said that the United States still has the highest quality beef in the world. We remain confident this incident poses no threat to consumers, as the diseased animal did not enter the human food supply, said NFU President Dave Frederickson. It is my hope the Department rapidly conducts the epidemiological investigation necessary to identify the origins of this single animal to ensure prevention of future incidents.
