MEXICO - Exports have increased dramatically through 2012 with annual sales already exceeding 116,000 tonnes. This is higher that 2011 figure of just over 112 000 tonnes.

Since 2007 government support has promoted exports of bovine meat and offal in Mexico sustaining annual average growth of 34 per cent.
The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food, Francisco Mayorga Castañeda attributed this growth due to government policies that have supplied meat traders with the necessary infrastrucutre to do business.
Speaking at Meat Marketing Forum 2012 he explained that this international Mexican meat demand has allowed the country to face the challenges posed by markets, and producers realise the potential offered by the sector.
"We have the recognition of the countries to which we export, as the U.S. and Russia, and work to expand into other regions of the world where the Federal Government and Mexican producers took knowledge and experience.
"The Mexican Beef industry has a great challenge of maintaining this supply globally," added Mr Castañeda.
So far this year, the state has invested 19.4 million pesos in promoting Mexican beef. This includes strategies for improving health standards in livestock markets and slaughter plants approved for export beef.
In addition, there has been an intense commercial promotion in countries like Japan, Korea, Russia, the United States, in the form of tasting events, seminars, workshops importers, press conferences, among others.
Its colour characteristics, low intramuscular fat (3 per cent) and high protein content (22 per cent) are selling points that the Mexican government is promoting to attract buyers.
