Irish to Grow UK Cheese Output in England
UK - The Irish Dairy Board (IDB) is planning to expand its cheese packing and production centre in Leek, Staffordshrie with a £1.5 million investment.Adams Foods, their British subsidiary, has applied for planning permission to expand the site which would include a new building for blended cheese production as well as areas for innovation and development projects.
IDB opened the £27m plant in 2009 and is understood to produce approximately one in every three retail cheese packs on sale in the UK.
Pilgrims Choice, Adams' leading brand, is the largest pre-packer of cheese in the British retail sector although in a recent Buy British campaign it was targeted as non-UK cheese.
