Expansion of FMD Free Zone
BRAZIL - The expansion of the Foot and Mouth Disease free zone with vaccination may be a reality for the Northeast soon.
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Mendes Ribeiro Filho, announced the publication of a new instruction repealing health restrictions FMD.
The instruction includes the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Paraiba.
The inclusion of Rio Grande do Norte and Paraiba also implies the repeal of restrictions on animal movement between the federal units that participate in the survey.
According to minister Mendes, the advance of the health status of the two states is recognition of the work being developed by the Health Protection Map along with the state governments. "Even in the face of difficulties, such as the drought that hit the Northeast, we are taking another step to help the health of the herd, which demonstrates the new possibilities," he said.
The measure had been determined by the map in May this year to reduce the possible risks of virus introduction in the area. The entire block should be recognised as free of FMD with vaccination by October.
