Dr Art Currey Receives Mentor of the Year Award
US - In recognition of his commitment to the animal health industry and inspiring students and others in veterinary medicine, Art Currey, D.V.M., received the Mentor of the Year Award from Merck Animal Health and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP).The award honors an individual who has dedicated his or her career to educating,
mentoring and advancing the careers of students in the field of bovine veterinary medicine.
Dr Currey was honored with a commemorative plaque during the AABP Annual Conference
and will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to next year’s AABP conference.
“This award was created to help recognize those practitioners who have had a positive
influence on students,” said Mike Bolton, D.V.M., Merck Animal Health dairy technical service
veterinarian and past AABP president.
“Dr Currey has played an instrumental role in educating
and mentoring veterinary students for more than 35 years as a practitioner and professor. His
dedication and eagerness to share his industry knowledge makes him incredibly deserving of
this award.”
Joann Greenfield, D.V.M., a mentee of Dr. Currey while attending Michigan State
University (MSU), presented him with the award. “I admire his humility. He is always willing to
share his experiences and mistakes, and not every veterinarian is that honest and open,” said
Dr Greenfield.
“He has been a wonderful mentor, and I still call on him today to answer
questions and seek recommendations.”
Dr Currey is a clinician in food animal medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine at
MSU, where he also earned his doctor of veterinary medicine degree. Prior to joining MSU,
Dr Currey owned and operated a mixed animal practice in Michigan.
Dr. Currey has received the Carl J. Norden-Pfizer Distinguished Teaching Award, the
Pfizer Animal Health Award for Research Excellence and the Birth of a Purebred, a high honor
for Michigan veterinarians. He is a member of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), where he serves as a committee member, and is also a member of AABP. Dr Currey
is the sixth recipient of the Mentor of the Year Award, which was instituted in 2007.
