European Dairy Association Hosts World Dairy Forum 2012
EU - On Friday 28 September 2012, the European Dairy Association (EDA) will be hosting its annual World Dairy Forum. The 2012 edition will be taking place in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This year’s World Dairy Forum will be focusing on three subjects in particular, namely the dairy industry in Southeast Europe, the abolition of the quota and food wastage reduction.Through three separate and
consecutive sessions, a number of renowned speakers from the academic, political and professional
world will be giving their insights on these current topics.
Session 1 will discuss perspectives for the dairy industry in Southeast Europe. Mr Franc Bogovic, Minister for
Agriculture and Environment in Slovenia; Mr Siemen van Berkum, International Policy Division, LEI, from the
Netherlands and Mr Marjan Vucak, CEO of Meggle in Eastern Europe will talk about the development of
demand for dairy products in Southeast Europe, the production possibilities over there and the options for
export to countries such as Russia, Ukraine and other former Soviet Republics.
In session 2, titled “Soft landing and Beyond”, the development of the EU milk production until the quota
abolition in 2015 and afterwards will be thoroughly looked at from different perspectives. Speakers are Mr Lars
Hoelgaard, EU Agri Policy Expert from Denmark; Mr Christophe Lafougère, GIRA, Agro Economic Research
Institute from France and Mr Jim Woulfe, CEO of Dairy Gold in Ireland.
The third and final session will delve into food wastage reduction, a major aspect of the sustainable production
and consumption programme for food. Speaking on the topic are Mrs Birgit van Tongelen from DG SANCO,
Mrs Sophie Easteal from WRAP UK and Mr Jais Valeur, member of the Arla Foods Executive Management
Group.
