Miratorg to Build 120,000 Beef Breeding Herd

RUSSIA - Agricultural company Miratorg is increasing its herd of Aberdeen Angus, after importing a further 11,500 head of cattle from Australia and the US.

Since June 2011, more than 37,000 head of breeding cattle have been delivered to Miratog's holdings in the Bryansk region.

The company has 14 cattle farms in the region. In the next two months the company is expected to take on a further 20,000 head of cattle and by Autumn 2012, the breeding herd is expected to have more than doubled to 80,000 head.

By the end of this year, Miratorg is hoping to have completed the construction of its 16 farms in the Bryansk region. In the long run the company aims to build 40 farms, as well as slaughter and processing facilities. By 2014 it hopes to have increased the breeding herd to 120,000 head. Investment in the project amounts to more than 24 billion rubles ($830 million).
