Spanish Beef Exports Reached 13,320 Tons Last Year

SPAIN - Spanish exports of beef to countries outside the EU-27 increased by 18.78 per cent in 2011 to 13,320 tonnes compared with 11,214 tonnes traded outside the European Union in the previous year, according to recent data published by the European Commission (CE).

Similarly, Spanish sales of live animals to non-EU countries increased by 2.17 per cent, to 13,403 tons.

On the other side of the coin, in Spain there were no imports of live cattle in 2011 from countries outside the EU and the beef input shrank by 8.72 per cent, to 15,538 tons.

EU meat exports increased by 34.68 per cent, to 295,814 tons and output of live cattle rose 34,36 per cent, to 280,061 tons.

Total beef products sold in countries outside the EU amounted to 719,575 tons in the full year, representing an increase of 33 per cent compared to 2010.
