The new test is suitable for testing of individual milk samples at level 1, 2 & 3 of the Herdsure® protocols. The ELISA test has been fully validated by AHVLA scientists and found to be very similar in characteristics, limitations and sensitivity to the established blood test.

Flexibility and convenience is ensured as the new milk test can be used in combination, or as an alternative, to blood testing for herds registered with Herdsure for Johne’s disease. The new milk test will have the same price for customers as the current blood test.

Herdsure’s Johne’s disease programme is licensed by Cattle Health Certification Standards UK (CHeCS). Farmers enrolled in Herdsure have the option to become CHeCS accredited as being free of disease for Johne’s disease.
