Japanese Wagyu beef is one of the most expensive meats in the world and highly sought after for its unique marbling, intense flavour and silky, buttery taste.

As of this week, Wagyu beef is available in selected stores selling at £28/kg for sirloin, alongside Wagyu fillet steak (£40/kg), Wagyu Ribeye steak (£26.98/kg), Wagyu roasting joint (£16.62/kg) and Wagyu burgers (£3 each).

Asda claims that this is six times cheaper than elsewhere.

Our Wagyu beef is actually a cross between Wagyu and Holstein cattle. We imported Wagyu bull semen from Japan and used it to impregnate Holstein dairy cattle to produce a slightly less highly marbled meat which many British customers prefer.

Asda Agricultural manager, Pearce Hughes, says: “At Asda we’ve invested time and research into creating the best quality steak available on supermarket shelves today. We’re proud to introduce this premium quality breed which is reared primarily for its flavour and texture – it’s not only a supermarket first it’s without the beefed up prices and therefore can be enjoyed by all.”

Wagyu beef is available in our Clapham Junction, Cheltenham, Trafford and Aintree stores from Wednesday 23rd November and our Havant store from Tuesday 29th November.
