Further Dairy Retail Price Cuts

UK - The latest retail price information form DairyCo shows that several retailers have followed ASDA in reducing the price of own-label milk.

Website information for Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons show that the price of own-label milk for Whole, Semi-skimmed and Skimmed milk has reduced from £1.25 to £1.18 for a four pint poly-bottle.

This is a reduction of seven pence (5.6 per cent) giving a pence per litre (ppl) equivalent of 51.9ppl and brings prices to the same level as ASDA.

Shown are the top five selling Cheddar Cheese brands, and the top four Butter brands as recorded by Kantar Worldpanel volume sales.

UK Dairy Product Retail Price Indices

In August 2011, the RPI increased by 0.6 per cent on the previous month and was 5.17 per cent above a year earlier.

Compared to the previous month, Cheese and Butter price indices increased and Milk fell. Compared to a year earlier, the butter index was up by 19.53 per cent, the cheese index was up by 10.98 per cent while the fresh milk index was 3.05 per cent above the level a year ago.
