OIE: Bluetongue Reported In Israel

ISRAEL - An outbreak of Bluetongue has been reported to the OIE by Dr Nadav Galon, Director, Veterinary Services and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, BET DAGAN, Israel.

There has been two outbreaks of bluetongue reported to the OIE.

The outbreaks occured at BUSTAN HAGALIL, Acco, HAZAFON and ASHDOT YA'AQOV(ME'UHAD), Kineret, HAZAFON

The outbreak effects the whole country.

So far, the BUSTAN HAGALIL outbreak has resulted in 24 cases and four deaths.

The ASHDOT YA'AQOV(ME'UHAD) outbreak has resulted in 82 cases with eight deaths.

It is the first time that this strain has been found in Israel.

The source of the outbreak is unknown.

Control measures currently being applied include:

  • No vaccination
  • No treatment of affected animals
