The 77 Poll Herefords and 50 Herefords were judged simultaneously in adjacent rings. To-gether the two rings comprised the second largest breed display at Brisbane.

The 23 months old heifer Tondara Doreen 259 exhibited by the Holt family’s Tondara stud at Urana, NSW, continued on her barn-storming run over three states when she was named senior and grand champion female.

She was junior champion at Sydney earlier this year and junior and grand champion at Melbourne last year. She was joined to the 2011 Wodonga National junior champion Mawarra Winchester (purchased by Tondara for A$26,000) as Winchester’s first task after stepping off the truck in May.

Tondara’s young champion will be a member of the 15 strong Tondara team headed for Melbourne this year and also for Beef 2012 at Rockhampton next May.

The senior and grand champion Hereford bull was Weetalabah Elmo E040 exhibited by Aderian and Julie Nixon, Chinchilla. Qld. At his first show, the champion came ‘straight out the cows’ with minimum preparation. Elma, and the Nixons’ reserve junior champion bull, are by Foxforth Axe puchased at the 2008 Glen Innes sale for A$8000.

The junior and grand champion Poll Hereford bull, Attitude Fury F1, was another big win for Peter and Janet Haywood and son Andrew who produced the inter-breed champion bull at Sydney 2007. Fury is by Bownen Bishop B277 purchased by Attitude for A$8000.

The senior and grand champion Poll Hereford female was Kalem Bess D18 entered by the Kalem stud of the Saal and Burcher families at Injune and Goondiwindi, Qld, major vendors with 20 bulls at the Roma whiteface sale on 12 September.
