Salmonella & Feed Contaminants - Alltech Symposuim

US - Salmonella – it’s one of every farmer’s worst fears and the culprit behind severe disease in both animals and people. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were nine major salmonella outbreaks affecting 2642 individuals in the US in 2010 alone. Yet salmonella is far from being the only foe facing the food chain.

During Alltech’s 27th International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium, salmonella and feed contaminants will be the focus of a roundtable discussion seeking solutions and greater safeguards for the protection of animals and families. The Symposium, entitled The Game Changers: Creative Concepts for Agribusiness to Respond to Relentless Commoditization and to Innovate for a Greener Future will be held at the Lexington Convention Center in Lexington, Ky., USA from May 22-25, 2011.

“Many countries are reexamining their regulatory response to feed contaminants, such as salmonella and dioxins,” said Dr. Steve Traylor, global director of regulatory affairs for Alltech. “New regulations will likely become game changers in the way the feed and food industries operate.”

Symposium attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a roundtable discussion with the following international regulatory industry experts:

  • W. Penning, EU Commission, Brussels, Belgium
  • P. Wall, University College Dublin, Co. Dublin, Ireland
  • K. Millar, Food Standards Agency, London, UK
  • R. Sellers, AFIA, Virginia, USA
  • A. Peterson, United Egg Board, Washington DC, USA
  • J. Kennedy, Alltech, Levallois - Perret, France
