First BSE Case In Switzerland For Four Years
SWITZERLAND - One animal has been destroyed in the canton of St Gallen, following the finding of subclinical BSE during routine surveillance.
The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 3 May to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The report describes the finding of one animal with sub-clinical BSE, as the result of surveillance. The animal was one of a herd of 32 cattle in the canton of St Gallen in north-east Switzerland.
According to the report, this was an atypical BSE case. The animal was born in 2003, and the diagnosis was made following fallen stock surveillance on 8 April.
The last case of BSE in the country was in October 2006.
