FMD Breaks Out in South Korean Pigs

SOUTH KOREA - The South Korean veterinary authorities have reported two new outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in the province of Gyeongbuk.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 18 on Friday, 29 April. According to the report, the affected population comprises pigs.

A total of 2800 animals showed signs of susceptibility to the outbreak, out of which 21 cases were reported. While no deaths occurred, the 21 affected animals were destroyed.

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
