US cow cleared of BSE

US - The United States does not have a third case of mad cow disease, according to just released test results. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) says its own lab and one in Weybridge, England, have gotten negative test results for a suspect US cow born before a 1997 ban on feed thought to spread mad cow disease. USDA blames an initial "non-definitive" result on "artificial staining" that it says did not resemble BSE, but was cause to conduct the new tests.
