Another 29 FMD Outbreaks in South Korea
SOUTH KOREA - There have been a further 29 outbreaks of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the last two weeks, affecting both cattle and pigs across the country.The authorities sent Follow Up Report No. 9 dated 19 January to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The report describes 29 outbreaks of the disease, starting between 6 and 18 January and across a wide area of the nothern part of the country.
In total, 65,400 pigs and 3,468 cattle have been destroyed.
The report adds that cattle and pigs in the affected farms and within 500 metres around the affected farms in the unvaccinated area have been culled and buried as a preventive measure. Within the vaccinated area, pigs or cattle only in the affected farms are culled.
