Dairy Sector Report Welcomed
NORTHERN IRELAND, UK - Ulster Farmers’ Union Dairy Policy Chairman William Cromie has welcomed the findings of the recently published “Northern Ireland Dairy Sector Strategy” Report.William Cromie stated: “The UFU are looking forward to the Report being implemented. The setting up of an Implementation Group will be a step towards this and we welcome the opportunity to contribute to its work, including how to minimise the impact of price volatility throughout the dairy supply chain”.
“A large amount of work went into this Report and should provide a starting point in the drive towards ensuring a sustainable future for dairy farming here in Northern Ireland”.
Mr Cromie was keen to emphasise that the UFU would be looking at how the findings of the study will apply at producer level. Mr Cromie said responsibility would lie with farmers and processors alike. He said; “The Report identifies the need for a more closely integrated supply chain, in particular increased co-operation between processors. A degree of rationalisation is required at processor level if the study is to succeed and the UFU are calling for all parties involved to take this into consideration”.
