US Livestock Slaughter Statistics
US - Commercial red meat production for the United States totalled 4.18 billion pounds in June, up slightly from the 4.16 billion pounds produced in June 2009, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) livestock slaughter statistics in the monthly Livestock Slaughter Report.Record Red Meat Production for June
Beef production, at 2.32 billion pounds, was one per cent above the previous year.
Cattle slaughter totaled 3.05 million head, up two per cent from June 2009.
The average live weight was down 8 pounds from the previous year, at 1,261 pounds.
Veal production totalled 10.8 million pounds, seven per cent below June a year ago.
Calf slaughter totalled 68,600 head, down 11 per cent from June 2009.
The average live weight was up 18 pounds from last year, at 269 pounds.
Pork production totalled 1.83 billion pounds, down one per cent from the previous year.
Hog kill totalled 9.04 million head, down one per cent from June 2009.
The average live weight was up two pounds from the previous year, at 271 pounds.
Lamb and mutton production, at 14.1 million pounds, was up two per cent from June 2009.
Sheep slaughter totaled 212,000 head, five per cent above last year. The average live weight was 134 pounds, down three pounds from June a year ago.
January to June 2010 commercial red meat production was 23.9 billion pounds, down two per cent from 2009.
Accumulated beef production was down slightly from last year, veal was down three per cent, pork was down three per cent from last year, and lamb and mutton production was down two per cent.
