FMD Breaks Out in Zimbabwean Cattle
ZIMBABWE - The Zimbabwean veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in cattle.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on Friday, 11 June.
According to the report, the outbreak first occured on 28 May, and was confirmed on 31 May. The outbreak has taken place in the rural district of Mangwe.
A total of 163 cattle was infected while 1377 showed susceptibility to the disease.
The reports states that the animals are suspected to have been in contact with previously infected animals during a previous outbreak that occurred in September 2009 at a feedlot in the area.
Antibody detection ELISA and virus isolation tests were conducted at the Zimbabwe Central Veterinary Laboratory. The results are still pending.
