New Chairman of Animal Welfare Council
DENMARK - Lene Munksgaard from Aarhus University is the new chairman of the Animal Welfare Council.Head of research unit, Lene Munksgaard from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at Aarhus University, has been appointed chairman of the Animal Welfare Council under the Danish Ministry of Justice from 1 April 2010.
Dr Munksgaard is employed at the Department of Animal Health and Bioscience at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences where she carries out research in behaviour and stress biology. She has a particular focus on the connection between behavioural and stress physiological reactions in dairy cattle.
Dr Munksgaard obtained her master degree in agricultural science from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in 1982 and it was also here that she did her PhD in ethology in 1995.
Besides carrying out research in animal behaviour, Dr Munksgaard has practical advisory experience in cattle feeding and management from a job as cattle advisor from 1982 to 1984. Since 1984, she has been a scientist at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
Dr Munksgaard replaces Birthe Lindstrøm Nielsen, who was also from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, and who desired to leave the post as chairman due to a job change.
