Animal Health Book A Must For The Industry
AUSTRALIA - Graziers, animal health inspectors, students and hobby farmers can now access comprehensive animal health information with the arrival of a new illustrated book, Animal Health and Disease Investigation. The newly published second edition provides a wealth of information to help people maintain the health and welfare of their animals and find out what might be wrong if illness and deaths start to occur.
Biosecurity Queensland veterinarian Dr Janet Berry, who co-authored the book with former Biosecurity Queensland veterinarian Bob Cottam, said the newly released second edition provided much-needed, practical information.
"Any animal owner wants their animals to stay healthy, regardless of whether they have companion animals or livestock," Dr Berry said.
"It is quite common for animal owners to realise something ‘isn’t quite right’ with their animals, but not know where to find answers.
"This book provides animal owners and anyone involved in the care of animals with access to detailed, current, reliable information on topics such as nutritional requirements, grazing of livestock, housing and transport, protection against infectious diseases, animal welfare standards, disease investigation and autopsy procedures."
Dr Berry said the book also increased awareness of the importance of property biosecurity planning.
"All animal owners have a role to play in protecting their animals against disease incursions by having biosecurity plans for their own properties and this book provides the information needed to help make this happen," she said.
