China Reports One New FMD Outbreak
CHINA - A new outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) has been reported by the Chinese veterinary authorities.The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up Report No.2 on 30 March (Tuesday). According to the report, the outbreak has occured in swine.
The outbreak took place at Lanzhou in Gansu. The outbreak began on 14 March. 206 cases were reported, and 1096 of the animals were found susceptible to the FMD virus, serotype O. Seven deaths were recorded, while 1089 were destroyed.
Yesterday, three tests were conducted at the Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute to confirm the presence of the virus. The tests conducted were enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), real-time PCR and virus isolation tests.
