FMD Outbreak in China
CHINA - An outbreak of foot and mouth disease was confirmed in China.
The outbreak, which is suspected to have started on 30 December 2009, has led to 37 cattle been destroyed in South Xinjiang region of China. 28 of the cattle were known to be infected, the others were susceptible to the disease.
The source of the outbreak is still unknown. No vaccinations of treatment of infected animals has been undertaken. Measures still to be applied include:
- Quarantine;
- Movement control inside the country;
- Zoning;
- Vaccination in response to outbreak;
- Disinfection of infected premises;
- Dipping/ spraying.
