Korean Beef Market Beneficial To Australia

AUSTRALIA - Although total Australian beef exports to Korea fell 12 per cent year-on-year over the January to November period, chilled grassfed beef from Australia grew 32 per cent, and accounted for 14 per cent of total Australian beef shipments to Korea, compared with chilled grainfed (at 12 per cent) or frozen grainfed products (at 11 per cent).

From January to November 1999 Australia exported 134 tonnes swt of chilled grassfed beef to Korea, with the top five cuts consisting of tenderloin, cube roll, blade, striploin and fullsets. Over the same period in 2009, chilled grassfed exports totalled 14,015 tonnes swt, with short rib and chuck roll making up 27 per cent and 21 per cent of total shipments, respectively.

Furthermore, the third quarter this year was a record for chilled grassfed beef to Korea (4,314 tonnes swt ). It is expected that Australian chilled grassfed beef exports to Korea will also total more than 4,000 tonnes swt in the December quarter.
