The events have been put together to help farmers understand what cows are saying about the way they are managed and show simple ways to improve cow health and comfort.

DairyCo extension officer Karen Lancaster, who is one of only 10 people in the UK trained as a cow signals instructor will be running the events. “It is often difficult to look objectively at your own animals and Cow Signals provides training to take that ‘step back’ and look at your system with a fresh pair of eyes,” she explains. “It’s not just about what cows are telling you through their behaviour, we’ll also be looking at factors such as feeding space, cubicles and ventilation.”

Cow signals and comfort workshops will take place on:

  • Monday 30 November - Hartshole Farm, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 8JW, at 10.45am
  • Tuesday 1 December - Little Croft West, Tregavethan, Truro, Cornwall, TR4 9EN, at 10.45am
Two further events are planned for the 15 and 16 December. To book for the above, or for more information please call DairyCo extension officer Rachael Grigg on 07976 980759 or email [email protected].
