EBLEX and DairyCo are jointly organising the meeting at New Building Farm, Hopton, near Stafford, from 11am to 2pm, on December 2.

It will show how to grow forage crops to ensure out-wintering of cattle is achievable and cost effective as an alternative to housing.

"Out-wintering cattle can help reduce fixed costs, protect against some health issues and help cattle make an easier transition onto spring grass," said Dr Liz Genever, EBLEX Sheep and Beef Scientist.

"We have been running out-wintering events for three years, and they have been very successful in encouraging producers to keep cattle outside," she said.

British Seed Houses is also adding technical input to the event on the types of forage crops to grow.
