Govt Seeks FMD-free Status for Luzon Provinces
PHILIPPINES - The government will apply for a foot and mouth disease (FMD)-free certification to the World Organization for Animal Health (also known by its French acronym OIE) late this year, an Agriculture official said yesterday. The application targets removing several parts of Luzon from the list of areas with FMD.
"We will re-file our request in November...We are applying for FMD-free with vaccination in Regions III (Central Luzon), IV-A (Calabarzon), and in Pangasinan," Divinio P. Catbagan, director of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), told reporters.
Meanwhile, the country is vying for an FMD-free without vaccination status in Regions I (ILocos Region), the Cordillera Administrative Region, II (Cagayan Valley), IV-B (Mimaropa) and V (Bicol Region).
