Cattle Die of Mystery Disease In Karwar
INDIA - More than 100 cattle died of a strange disease that has surfaced in many villages of Mundgod taluk.

According to sources, the disease has been reported in Chigalli, Tumburgi, Salgao, Choudalli, Hirehalli and Malagi villages in the taluk in the last few days, confirms The Express Buzz.
Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, Dr S Bhat visited the affected villages along with Dr Govind Bhat, Assistant Director, Siddapur and Dr MS Markande, Assistant Director, Mundgod.
Dr S Bhat told Express on Sunday that the disease was yet to be identified. However it was most likely that the cattle suffered from Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (HS), a deadly bacterial disease. According to him, the abdomen of the affected animal bloats.
There can be haemorrhages in lungs and smaller intestine. The cattle suffer from congestion. There can be swelling in the neck region and also high temperature. The animal suffering from the HS stops eating and within a day it dies, said Dr Bhat.
The disease is caused by an organism called Pasteurella Multocida. "Vaccination of cattle should be done on annual basis. But, farmers usually don't do this," he said.
