The price reduction applies to members and direct suppliers but does not apply to the 102 ‘residual’ ex-DFB producers, who were signed up on a basic dairy commodities contract in July are who are already on a lower price, according to a report in Farmers Guardian.

The report says that the August reduction has come about because of weakening returns from cheese being sold into the retail and food service sectors. This has already led other major cheese processors to cut their milk for cheese prices by between 0.5 and 0.83ppl over the last few months.

Dairy Link reports that there has been a significant increase in imports of cheese, from countries such as Ireland and New Zealand.

Framers Guardian says that imports from these countries are 25 and 98 per cent higher respectively in the first five months of the calendar year compared to last year.
