Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health also hosted a symposium about the control of bluetongue serotype 8 in Europe, presenting the new bluetongue vaccine BOVILIS BTV8. Another symposium covering advances in lung protection therapy, presented the new claim of RESFLOR against Mycoplasma bovis. The company also sponsored a workshop on control and eradication of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR). Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health offers an extensive range of vaccines (single strain and combined, live and inactivated and conventional marker vaccines), against IBR.

At the congress, Edival Santos, recently appointed as Head of Global Cattle at Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, said: "Our leadership in the ruminants sector has a solid foundation with a strong commitment for future growth. We have the right products and the best people to offer a comprehensive set of unique solutions to our customers."

Recently Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health extended the cattle vaccine range in Europe by introducing the new bluetongue vaccine, Bovilis BTV8, for cattle and sheep. In other markets such as the U.S., beef farmers can reap major productivity benefits offered by new additions to the company’s performance technology portfolio.

Edival Santos is responsible for marketing strategies in the global and regional cattle markets. He served as Head of Global Marketing Ruminants in the legacy of Intervet International, since July 2005. He joined Intervet in 2000 in Brazil and since then he held positions of increasing responsibility in both marketing and technical areas. Mr. Santos earned a master’s degree of Veterinary Medicine from Sao Paulo State University, Brazil and a MBA from the Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets.

Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health is particularly strong in the bovine respiratory disease arena, where it offers vaccines and treatment packages for effective herd health management. The company also provides effective vaccines against foot and mouth disease, a highly contagious and sometimes fatal viral disease found mostly in cattle and pigs.

The new combination Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health strengthens the animal health portfolio in several areas and brings together complementary lines of vaccines, pharmaceuticals, biologicals and an enhanced science and technology platform. This ensures on-going commitment to meeting the challenges of the various species segments. Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health is not only the world market leader in the production of animal health vaccines, but is also one of the world’s leaders in the field of animal health.
