Anti-poverty Schemes Have FMD scare

INDIA - Success of the UPA Government’s poverty alleviation programme has a correlation with the foot and mouth disease (FMD) among the livestock population of India, according to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

Pawar today said poverty alleviation programmes of the Centre will be difficult to achieve unless the huge economic loss caused by diseases such as FMD are not checked through scientific and development initiatives.

His point was FMD and other diseases have a huge bearing on the programmes which have a livestock-centric employment agenda.
