Armours Take Top Spot Again with 'Super' Herd
SCOTLAND - The Annandale Holstein herd has again topped the milk production league table, with an average 12,636 kg milk for a 305-day lactation.

The modern dairy cow has the capacity to produce milk in quantities that would never have been contemplated 50 years ago. That much is evident in the annual listings of the top herds in Scotland, reports The Scotsman.
For an unprecedented fourth consecutive year, the Annandale Holstein herd of Matthew and William Armour from Milton Farm, near Moffat, have topped the production league.
Over a recorded 305 days, their herd of 112 Holstein cows averaged 12,636 kilos of milk at 4.19 per cent butterfat and 3.33 per cent protein. This equates to 2,785 gallons from every cow.
Dumfries and Galloway is the heartland of milk production in Scotland, and once again second place went to the herd of R&M Harvey at Nether Keir, Dumfries. Its average yield was 11,269 kilos at 4.09 per cent butterfat and 3.20 per cent protein.
The leading Ayrshire herd was that of Muirside Farms, Holywood, Dumfries, with a yield of 9,696 kilos for 79 cows.
