SOUTH KOREA - The South Korean government is to introduce a cattle and beef tracking system from Monday in a bid to boost consumer confidence in beef. The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said all cattle ranchers will be required to report the date of birth, slaughter date and sale of the animals, allowing consumers to identify the origin and quality of the beef they purchase, accordign to a report on KBS News.
The system will also help enhance quality control and facilitate a swift response in case of a recall.
KBS said the government passed a law introducing the tracking system in December last year, when the country first decided to reopen its market to US beef.
