British Beef Cattle Genetics in Demand
UK - Cattle, embryos and semen go to Australia, Germany and Switzerland.Interest in British beef genetics gathers momentum with the export this month (September) of 34 Limousin and Charolais embryos to Australia following a recent shipment of 24 Aberdeen Angus cattle to Germany.
BLG member Eggs-Port Ltd, who arranged the export deals, report increasing interest in semen, embryos and pedigree beef cattle from British herds.
"We are getting enquiries from all over the world from breeders interested in upgrading their herds with top-quality British genetics," says Eggs-Port's Sheila Eggleston. "The sale of Aberdeen Angus cattle to Germany follows a tour of herds by German breeders and we expect to do more business with Germany with Aberdeen Angus and other beef breeds in the future."
A group representing the Aberdeen Angus, Limousin and Charolais breeders will visit Bavaria, Germany in early October on a trade mission organised by Eggs-Port in conjunction with the Bavarian Cattle Breeders Association.
The consignment of embryos shipped to Australia is the first for two years following a brief interruption to trade.
Eggs-Port have also recently exported a large consignment of semen to Switzerland from the Aberdeen Angus, Beef Shorthorn, Dexter, Galloway and Polled Simmental breeds.
