Jim Begg, Dairy UK Director General

Mr Allen, Chief Executive of Dairy Crest, said: “It is a great privilege to become chairman of the organisation that is the voice of the dairy industry and I look forward to serving the interests of the whole industry and Dairy UK members.

“Dairy UK is now in its fifth year and now a well established representative organisation. Our industry is constantly evolving and I’m sure that Dairy UK will continue to speak as a cross industry body with clarity and authority in the years to come.

“On behalf of everyone at Dairy UK I would like to thank David Curry for the great contribution he made to Dairy UK over the last four years.”

Jim Begg, Dairy UK Director General said: “As Dairy UK has established itself more firmly, and the dairy supply chain has evolved significantly in recent years, our Board felt that the time was right to appoint an industry Chairman.

“We will continue to represent the interests of farmers and processors with equal vigour and farmers will continue to sit as directors on our Board. They will also have significant representation at Dairy UK through the Farmers’ Forum, and by feeding into other areas of our work.

“We are, however, deeply disappointed at the reaction today from the NFU which has indicated its withdrawal from Dairy UK. We do not agree with the NFU view that the dairy industry’s representative body cannot have a chairman from its own industry.”
