The East Asian Promise of Trade
AUSTRALIA - A researcher working in the North Australian cattle industry says there is scope to dramatically increase the trade of live cattle to South East Asia.According to Radio Australia, Doctor Steve Petty says thousands of square kilometres on cattle stations are relatively un-grazed.
Doctor Petty says cattle herds could increase by 50 percent within a decade, allowing an annual production of 600,000 cattle from the Port of Darwin to South East Asia.
"The properties I have worked with would suggest that potentially 50% increase is in stock numbers, with additional development is do-able," he told the radio channel.
