Scotch Beef Coming to Maltese Supermarkets
MALTA - Scotch Beef will be gracing the menus and supermarket shelves on the island of Malta thanks to a major new export deal.Following an inward mission last month organised by the red meat promotion body, Quality Meat Scotland, Maltese buyers have bought consignments from two Scottish companies.
The Mediterranean island, the smallest of the EU’s new member states, has a sizable British expat community and Scotch Beef is now on the shelves of select retail outlets and upmarket restaurants.
Laurent Vernet, Head of Marketing QMS said: “Whilst France, Italy and the Benelux remain our most important target markets, adding countries such as Malta to Scotland’s export portfolio is the icing on the cake.
“There has been limited trade with Malta in the past but this new deal will ensure our beef is seen in the best outlets throughout the island, no doubt a welcome sight for expats and tourists alike. It’s also another excellent platform to showcase the taste and quality of Scotch Beef."
Malta has a healthy and rapidly growing domestic economy and has seen growth in tourism over the past decade. It is also one of the latest countries to have adopted the Euro, giving Scottish exporters an edge due the continued strength of the currency relative to the pound.
